The foundation has initiated the INTRODUCTION TO BASIC TECHNOLOGY [IBT] programme at Sri Someshwara High School, Dombaranahalli, Tumkur District, Karnataka.
   
         
   
This is the programme of Yuva Foundations - which is a non-profit foundation based out of India. YUVA is a group of young professionals with varied backgrounds, having rich experience in volunteering initiatives AND Vigyan Ashram (meaning “student’s home for learning science and technology”) established by Late.Dr.S.S.Kalbag in 1983 under the aegis of Indian Institute of Education is the pioneer of an education system that integrates education and development based on life related skills.
   
         
   
Introduction to Basic Technology (IBT) developed by Vigyan Ashram offers an innovative and sustainable solution to tackle the problem of unemployment. This unique time tested model of vocational training evolved after 12 years of sustained grassroots efforts, is based on a natural system of learning i.e. ‘Learning by doing in Real-Life situation’.
   
         
   
YUVA in association with Vigyan Ashram is trying to revolutionize the rural education through vocational training equipping young girls and boys from rural India with job and life skills.
   
         
   
This model of IBT Program is introduced in high schools in rural area for the students in classes’ 8th to 10th. The program introduces students to basic theory and practices in Engineering, Energy and Environment, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, and Home and Health science. One day out of the weekly school schedule is devoted for IBT classes and workshop practices.
   
         
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
Collaboration between Free Wheelchair Mission (FWM) and Motivation with: Representatives from APD, Sathyam Ministries and RK Foundation held on the 21st of January 2008.Topic for discussion was, Implementation of Trial Collaboration between FWM and Motivation through partners in Bangalore.
   
         
   
The representatives from Sathyam Ministries and R. K. Foundation were given a tour of the facilities of APD prior to the meeting. The World made video was shown to summarise Motivation’s work on the area of wheelchair provision.
   
         
   
Association of People with Disability would provide wheelchair services for those that are referred by Sathyam Ministries/R.K. Foundation.
   
         
   
The current practice followed by APD:
   
         
   
Screening of the client, including financial screening.
   
Clinical assessment conducted by a motivation trained APD staff.
   
Prescription of the appropriate product/wheelchair.
   
Assembly of World made wheelchair (takes 3 to 4 hours).
   
Customizing the wheel chair to the needs of the client.
   
Quality check of wheelchair.
   
User training which covers wheelchair mobility skills training, care and maintenance.
   
   
   
The users are encouraged to stay overnight or come for a period of 2 days to maximise training input to both user and carer or family member assisting the wheelchair user.
