A general health and cervical and breast cancer screening camp was conducted at Dhanvantari clinic run by an Ayurvedic doctor.
The camp was organized through RK Foundation, and the camp was funded by ALLEGION India pvt.ltd.
Highlights:
- Camp was conducted at Dhanvantari clinic run by an Ayurvedic doctor. This is helping the team to follow up women who attended the camp
- 66 women registered for the camp and 51 women attended the camp
- Cervical cancer and breast cancer screening could be done in a private space.
- Breast cancer screening was done using Niramai technology as described in our earlier report. Women who underwent the test got the report instantly.
- 70% of women who attended the camp were identified to have moderate and severe anemia. These women are being followed up and are getting treated.
- 4 women were found to have high blood sugar
- 6 women were found to have high blood pressure
In this camp we provided general check-up, screening for anemia, screening for diabetes, cervical and breast cancer screening was done using PAP test and Niramai technology.
Awareness:3 rounds of awareness program was conducted at the clinic and around 60 to 70 women attended the awareness program where they were educated about cervical and breast cancer, symptoms and tests being done at the camp. Around 180 to 200 women were reached with information. Awareness program was conducted 2 to 3 days prior to the camp.
Clinical details:Of the 51 women who attended the camp.
Anemia screening:- 14 women were found to have normal hb values
- 30 women were found to have moderate anemia
- 7 women were found to have severe anemia
As per the data available from National health survey, prevalence of anemia in India between 2019 and 2021, is 57%. Our data from the camp shows anemia presence of 70% among the women who attended the camp.
All the 37 women with anemia did not report any symptom of medical condition that could result in anemia. So it was considered due to nutritional deficiency and they were informed about nutritious food.
All women with moderate anemia were treated with deworming and iron and folic acid supplementation for a period of 3 months and were requested to come back for follow up after 3 months for repeat Hb testing to see if there was any improvement.
All women with severe anemia were referred for Iron sucrose injections. The ayurvedic doctor where cam was conducted and the Cancer care India teams are helping women to get these injections in the prescribed dose and they are being followed up.
Cervical cancer screening:
All the 51 women underwent pap test and we did not find anyone with infection or a suspected malignant report
Breast cancer screening: This was done using Nirmai technology. Niramai technology gives breast health scores. The risk score, is calculated using AI-powered analysis of thermal images automatically. This score helps to identify individuals at higher risk of breast cancer and guide further action. This combines BI-RADS categories with a risk score to help healthcare professionals determine the best course of action for each individual.
The risk score is mainly derived from two sub-scores namely, vascular score and hotspot score. A hotspot score signifies the abnormality seen from irregular asymmetric heat patterns seen on the skin surface, whereas vascular score predicts the presence of asymmetric vascular activity.
These scores are generated using machine learning algorithms over medically interpretable parameters that describe the metabolic activity inside the breast tissue and indicate the presence of a possible malignancy even in asymptomatic women. Based on this, Grade 2 means benign and non-cancerous appearance. Of the 51 women screened,
- 17 women got a Grade 2 scoring. Based on the above, a Grade 2 score means benign and non-cancerous appearance. These women require annual follow up to understand risk of vascular or temperature changes for early detection of breast cancer. These women will be followed up annually.
- 34 women got Grade 1 report that means normal report.
Screening for high blood pressure and diabetes:
Of the 51 women seen
- 6 women were found to have high pressure. Of them 3 were newly detected and were referred for a re assessment and the remaining 3 were known cases on medication. All these women will be followed up at the clinic.
- 4 women were found to have high blood sugar. Of them one woman’s blood sugar was over 350 and she was newly found to have diabetes. She has been referred for other tests for confirmation to initiate treatment. All women will be followed up at the clinic.
Report of camp conducted at Jangamkote on 25.10.25
The camp was conducted at Jangamkote primary health centre (PHC). The camp was organized through RK Foundation, and the camp was funded by ALLEGION India pvt.ltd.
Awareness: Cancer care India team members conducted awareness program for 2 days continuously prior to the camp around Jangamkote PHC. Once the dates for the camp was fixed, the next day itself the team conducted one group awareness program for women with help of ASHA workers of the PHC. In addition, the team tried door to door visits with ASHA workers. But the team found that many women had gone to work and there was no one available in the households visited. Later ASHA workers motivated women to come to the PHC garden and the team could conduct 5 more group education each group having 3 ASHA workers and 10 to 15 women. They were informed and motivated about breast cancer, self-breast examination and cervical cancer and PAP test.
Services:
In total, 62 women attended the camp.
Of the 62 women, Average ago of women who attended the camp was between 30 and 54 years
- High blood pressure screening: o 46 women’s blood pressure was in the normal range o 16 women’s blood pressure was high. Of them 6 women were known hypertensives on treatment. The remaining 10 women were asked to recheck BP after 4 hrs at a nearby health centre once again
- 48 women screened had normal blood sugar values
- 2 women were known cases of diabetes on treatment
- 2 were newly detected to have diabetes. They were asked to undergo additional tests to confirm diabetes and then initiate treatment at the PHC
- 20 Women had normal hb values (32.2%)
- 36 women were found to have moderate anemia, hb less than 10 grams (58.2%)
- 6 women were found to have severe anemia, Hb less than 7 grams. (9.6%)
All women who were found to have moderate anemia were given iron and folic acid supplement along with deworming. They were referred to PHC for complete treatment of 3 months.
All women screened for severe anemia, were referred to Dr. Indira, trustee of Cancer care India for iron sucrose injection
Anemia seems highly prevalent. Women require nutritional education and anemia prevention.
Cervical cancer screening:
- Of the 62 women who attended the camp, 42 women underwent pap tests.
- Of the 42 women,
* 3 women had vaginal infection and they have been treated
* 39 women had no abnormalities reported on pap test
Breast cancer screening:
* 53 women were reported to have Score 0. This means, the results are normal, with no evident signs of breast malignancy detected in the thermal images. It is the lowest possible score, indicating a negative finding for cancer. Routine annual screening is typically recommended for individuals with this score. In some cases, if all scores are zero, a repeat test may be suggested once every two years.
* 9 women were reported to have Score 2. This means, routine annual screening is recommended for individuals with this score. In some cases, if all scores are zero, a repeat test may be suggested once every two years. The radiologist may observe some non-cancerous findings, such as benign cysts or calcifications, but they are not a cause for concern. This score prompts a recommendation for continued monitoring with regular, routine screenings as part of standard preventive care. No immediate action or biopsy is typically needed.
